Project Description
Study tour to North America for senior water managers

This second study tour will differ from the first, as it will place a specific emphasis on the dynamics of peaceful international and domestic management of water resources. While the first tour focused on government and policy issues, this tour will focus on actual management and implementation issues. The main management issues that will be visited in the study tour include:
  • Peaceful international water sharing , mainly the application of the Canada-US Boundary Waters Treaty;
  • Water basin-sharing agreements between the provinces, the Ottawa River Regulation Board and the Prairie Provinces Water Board;
  • Participants will attend a one week seminar gaining hands-on training in the principles of conflict resolution.
The participants in this activity will be selected from the five Central Asian countries' ministries responsible for water and water supply as well as river basin authorities (such the Syr Darya and Amu Darya Basin Authorities) and environment ministries. The type of personnel envisioned in this activity as well as activity 3b would be someone working at the directorship level.
