Dialogue on water and climate - case study of the Aral Sea Basin

Representatives of Water Management, Hydropower, Hydrometeorological and Ecological Organizations, Planning Ministries and Departments, NGO's and Mass Media of all the Central Asian states participated in the workshop on "Dialogue on water and climate - case study of the Aral Sea Basin".
Reports were presented during the discussions of climate changes impact on the Aral Sea Basin Management Model (ASB-MM). The reports demonstrated the following aspects: - estimation results of impact exerted by climate changes on water resources availability in the Aral Sea basin;
- feasibility of water demand reduction and improvement of water use efficiency under the conditions of climate changes;
- possibilities for maintaining sustainable development of the Aral Sea Basin under the conditions of climate changes on the basis of regional cooperation in the field of Water Management and Agriculture Production.
Workshop participants got very interested in given presentations and reports, as well as in the set of measures recommended for undertaking in various situations caused by climate changes.
Simultaneously, participants had the opportunity to practice operation of Aral Sea Basin Management Model applying different variables within the such sub-models as - Socio-Economic model, Hydrological and Planning Zones models.
During the workshop the following training materials were distributed: the brochure with all reports and CD with all relevant data and information and CDs with "Dialogue on Water and Climate: Aral Sea basin Case Study".
All participants noted that ASB-MM contained in CDs is easy to comprehend and use for practical purposes and can be used as decision support system for Decision Makers. It is expedient to disseminate training materials among specialists involved in water and agriculture management, economy and ecology ministries.
